April 2003
Frankly, I haven't been working on my Buick at all since I got the engine running. I had to do flips and twists to get my daily transporter pass the annual safety check. Then again, April is the time of year when all the weekends are filled with car shows and swap meets.
In order to fill the gap here, I'm showing the back seat cushion that I upholstered some time ago, just to give you an idea of how the interior will look like. Since this is the easiest part to upholster, I chose it first. I'm using white vinyl with a slight pearl effect, contrasted by the purple fabric made by the Swedish Marks Pelle. At first I thought of using Alcantara, but I couldn't find the right color. This Marks Pelle fabric is a woven fabric and creates a three-dimensional look. It is used in high quality furniture for public places like hotels and restaurants, and costs more than Alcantara. For piping (welting), I found some interesting silver cord inside a clear tube. The original upholstery was so badly frayed that it couldn't be used as a template, so I cut the material based on measurements that I took from the seat. I dicovered that the Super T-10 shifter comes through the floor under the front seat, even if the seat is as far back as it comes. I have to figure out a solution before I can upholster the front seat cushion, but I quess I'll have to notch the seat. We'll see.
