Winter 2004-2005,  echoes  from last fall

I feel ashamed not updating my site since last October. I'm still missing the "drive" and passion that I had until last fall. It may have been the enormous amount of grinding and sanding ( I hate both) that I went through during June and July, that exhausted me.  But now, my side business takes all my spare time, and if that wasn't enough, we are planning to build a new house (and garage, of course), so my interest is now elsewhere. But what's alarming, I just turned 38 and I feel getting old. Crawling under the car is not a very temptating thought anymore. I keep telling myself that once I get that new garage ready, I will get my "mojo" back. Hopefully.

Things are not so bad as it may sound. Since January, I do have done some minor machine work on the Buick, more about that later. But this time,  I just went through all my pics from last year, and found a couple that you haven't seen. Enjoy!

Rear Bumper
Before parking the car for winter, I installed the bumper guards and spreader bar. The bar is actually the original lower bar, mounted upside-down above the bumper. The Guards are radically sectioned originals.  The licence plate now resides on a purpose-built frame instead of tie-wraps. The frame is narrower than the plate, as I intend to swap the European Union -style plates for old Finnish style plates w/o the blue section.
Fender Skirt
Now this is one of the fender skirts that I formed using my self-made english wheel. I also purchased a hand-operated shrinker to complement the english wheel. Boy did it take some practise to accomplish this? You bet. It almost got the better of me.  The  panel was formed to fit over the "skeleton" that I made of bar stock. Once it seemed to roughly fit the skeleton,  it was clamped on and tack welded while mounted on the car, then finish welded loose. This one seems to fit nicely, but I screwed up the other side, and  I'm still figuring out what went wrong...

I will show you the english wheel in the near future.
