MILLENNIUM UPGRADES
| There were more modifications than might
appear at first sight. The most obvious upgrade are the completely new
headers and sidepipes. The old headers were full of pinholes and the 1-3/4"
primary tubes were too large. What I wanted was a real thru-sill 4-1 header
combined to a bulky 4" sidepipe, just like the real 427's had.
The actual header construction here is a Tri-Y (4-2-1), not a 4 -1 (the 2 lower primaries seen here are dummies). My first impression is that I got a noticeable increase in midrange torque. |

| I ordered some necessary pieces from Martelius
Exhaust, like 1-5/8" J-bends, 2x1-5/8" to 2" Y-collectors, 2" 90
degree bends, and began cutting, welding and fitting. Finally the headers
were then Cermakrome coated for that polished aluminum look. You can see
the difference here, as the sidepipe is stainless, already turning yellow
from heat.
Inside the new sidepipe there's new inserts, and now I can open the pipe to replace the inserts, which is quite important . |

| Another visible modification is the addition
of louvers on both sides of hood scoop. These stainless vents are actually
boat accessories. Although they may not represent the perfect in looks,
they are functional and inexpensive. My Cobra has a bad habit of entrapping
hot air inside the engine compartment, and these vents seem to help (at
least the hood doesn't flap anymore at over 180 km/h)
Other modifications include improvements in cooling, braking and suspension. I replaced all bushings and joints in the front suspension, and installed big 12" front discs. Also, I changed back to original springs (shortened) both front & rear, and added a rear stabilizer bar from PST. You may wish to come back to the "strip & track" section later this summer to see if anything happened! |

| In this picture, the color looks the truest to the real color (it's actually more purple than blue - for some reason, my digital camera, or the paintshop pro biases the color towards the blue). Also visible are the new Centerline front wheels, and the nose-up stance, which will be corrected (front lowered) once I find some energy to cut the springs some more (already done it twice) | ![]() |
